Starbucks Coffee – new logo?

I know I shouldn’t really advertise a particular brand name, so MODs if you feel this topic isnt suitable for discussion, please feel free to remove it!

Basically, 2011 marks the 40th anniversary of Starbucks Coffee, and to help celebrate this milestone they have chosen to re-vamp their logo (see attached picture!), which will come into effect in the Spring.

Personally I really like the new-look logo, however, there has been quite a debate about it on their Facebook page, as it appears that a lot of people don’t like the new-look logo, and some are really quite upset that the cups will no longer have “Starbucks Coffee” written on the side.

I am wondering if people like the new-look logo compared to the old one, and more so in general, whether people actually pay attention to things such as logos thesedays…after all, its just a paper cup!

Also, I am wondering if a logo can really affect the way you do business, and if changing it can actually have a negative impact?

Any thoughts.:)

I think it was a good analogy between the Starbuck logo and the BA tails, the old starbucks logo was instantly recognisable, whereas the new one is non descript/vague.Same for the BA tails…might have seemed a good idea to some people but not instantly recognisable as a BA logo.
I also only use starbucks very occasionally if forced to but I always thought that the logo was good.

I quite like Cafe Nerro here…

Indeed, Cafe Nero are great, especially their milkshakes…however, their so-called “greatness” is reflected in their prices as they are the most expensive!

I quite like Cafe Nerro here, better coffee than Starbucks but the ambiance is a little better to sit and talk on the latter.

Problem is, most of the expresso machines that these franchise places use are preset and all they have to do is employ students or school leavers who have little appreciation in what constitutes a good coffee.
Fortunately in my neck of the woods, there are a few boutique places that serve good coffee as well as roast their own beans.

I can think of several places where I meet friends and none are Starbucks! Fortunately we have the choice of venues where the coffee is drinkable!!:D

I think a lot of people have forgotten one small fact.

Its not all just about the coffee its about the atmosphere and meeting friends over a coffee.

Starbucks do this rather well even if the coffee is only barely passable. Other brands come a close second with me Costas then whatever else is left.

Oh I forgot one thing though. Most of the people on here wont have a clue what I am talking about as you lot dont have friends do ya.

LOL you know I was only joking right. Right!!!

Ah my tastebuds died a long time ago, I blame instant coffee! 😀

As for great coffee, Istanbul was probably one of my more memorable coffee drinking experiences. Quite different to how we have it here but damned tasty.

Ah, yes – Turkish or Greek coffee – not sweet, is sweet……:D

If you blind tasted the three brands you mentioned, would you be able to differentiate the three, let alone identify Starbucks?

I would as long as its unadulterated coffee, i.e. no milk, sugar etc.

I think you’re possibly missing something from the end of that statement? Like, it tastes bloody awful ‘to me’? 😉

“…bloody awful to anyone whose tastebuds still function”, surely? 😎

If you want to taste proper coffee, try one of the little Italian cafes on and around Victoria Street in London. Sheer nectar! 🙂

and bty just the coffee bean and milk content can cost anything between 35c-50cents depending on the quality of bean.

Milk? In coffee?

Why bother – just pop out and buy some Mellow Birds Instant Coffee in a jar if you are going to smother any taste.

I find Starbucks generally undrinkable anyway.

Send me some Northern Water so I can make a cuppa!
Yorkshire Tea, “For Hard Water” doesn’t quite step up to the mark when I compare it to Tea made with Lake District water, as per Mancland.
Down here, the water is similar to battery acid. But it’s not as bad as Liverpool’s. I have coffee in the ‘pool so it disguises the awful water. Come from Lake Bala doesn’t it?

Haha! Well I do have a reputation to live up to, Chris! :p

Sky High, in a choice between me being awkward and pedantic or me playing bass most people would go for the first option!

I’m just being awkward and pedantic because I’m extremely bored!

I thought you were like that all the time?! 😉 (Joke!)
