Hope it all goes well for you. As has already been said, be ready to listen and don’t assume you are right all the time. I’m a non-flyer currently (although a bimble around Norfolk yesterday morning in a PA-38 with a friend whetted the appetite somewhat), but it is obvious to me that there are plenty of forum members who are more than willing to give constructive advice to you, if you ready to listen.

Hi Tony it might be worth getting your medical done sooner rather than later, if you are not intending getting your PPL out of the way within a couple of years then Id go for the class 2 to start with, then once you know for sure flying is for you and you are going to start your ATPLs then get the class 1,
Dean

Good point. I missed that one.

There’s an argument that says if your heart is set on commercial flying it’s best to take the Class One straight off and prevent any disappointment later. You pays yer money…

Good luck with yours tomorrow Deano.

Hi Tony

Moggy said it all really, but another thing is, do NOT pay for anything up front, alot of schools have gone “t!ts up” taking alot of students money with it, if any school asks for up front payments tell them to shove off.
Once you commence your “flight” training make sure you keep up to speed with the ground exams, dont get behind with the studying and leave everything to the last minute, also it might be worth getting your medical done sooner rather than later, if you are not intending getting your PPL out of the way within a couple of years then Id go for the class 2 to start with, then once you know for sure flying is for you and you are going to start your ATPLs then get the class 1, I have my class 1 tomorrow at Gatwick (me shudders) and it costs alot more than the Class 2, obviously if you are looking for a fast track way to start the ATPLs then its worth going for the Class 1 straight away.

Any questions dont hesitate to ask, there are alot of people here (commercial pilots included) who frequent these forums with alot of knowledge and are only too pleased to help

Hi Tony and welcome.

First bit of advice, give the sim a rest for a while. It teaches you to rely far too heavily on the instruments, and not at all on the seat of your trousers which is what this initial stage, the PPL is all about. Also assuming you use the Microsoft sim, the ATC is very definitely FAA not CAA, and whilst it won’t flummox an ATCO it will cause you problems with examiners.

Later you will find the sim a great help with radio nav, so don’t chuck it away, just treat it as a game.

You now have to make the decision that will have the greatest effect on your flying life – which school?

Try several, buying a ‘trial lesson’ with each. Don’t be influenced by the price, or how smart the uniform shirts are, find yourself a school where you feel happy and comfortable. You’ll be handing over large chunks of hard-earned to these people, it really does help if you like them and feel they are interested in you and your flying, not just in building there own hours.

Frank makes a point about legibility. Whilst we’d rather you posted here in garbled style than not at all, we like to hear about your progress. But if you are going on to greater things it might well be a good idea to start trying to be legible now, rather than later on when you are filling in applications to airllines in a very competitive arena.

Tony, I’ll start by giving you 2 pieces of advice:

1) A sentence starts with a CAPITAL letter.
2) Watch your spelling.

Because your post is nearly unreadable, and you’ll be way more likely to get an answer if peaple read your post.

I don’t have my licence (far from it ! ), but I could notice 1 very big difference between FS and real life. It can be obvious to those flying, but not to the others: FS gives you no feedback of your actions (and NO, a “vibrating” joystick won’t help). So you can consider it as a procedural trainer maybe (find where the instruments are, …) but that’s about it.
