Steeple Morden memorial

Whilst travelling round East Anglia, I try and make visits to the old airfields just to see if anything has changed since my last visit.

I made a small detour from the A505 to visit Steeple Morden the other morning. I was surprised to see that there have been additions to the memorial which has made this more Impressive & personel.

To the left of the main memorial a list of the lost airmen from the American air forces, to the right is a list of allied airman lost during the war. Both sides are full height of the memorial and about 2 feet extra each side.

Does anyone know when these additions were addeed or if a dedication was made? This might have been covered in Flypast but I do not always get a copy, so I might have missed this.

Thanks.

BP. 😉

Hi

Although I cannot give you any direct info, the Imperial War Museum in London, have a massive computerised project on war memorials. They might be able to help.

Dedication

I understand a new dedication took place just before the last bank holiday in May – I think veterans of the 355th FG were present and possibly the Duke of York?????
