Hi guys…
A member of the LEMB has come into possession of a complete Bf109/Bf110 propeller which was netted by a trawler off the Sussex coast several years ago. It appears to have never been treated for protection and has been standing in a garden exposed to the elements. The blades of the prop have ‘blown’ in several places but are still complete and as can be seen by the image below, it is otherwise in pretty good condition considering.
The item is going on display under cover but his question is what additional measures can/should be taken to preserve it? He has had several suggestions made (outside of the LEMB I might add) from removing some of the blown layers of prop to leaving them as is, to applying several coats of good quality varnish to prevent further decay. Any suggestions or tips from those in the know would be most welcome! 🙂
