I’m very sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you all, and I won’t go into the boring reasons etc., but suffice to say, I have had other things to deal with recently.
I do hope that a good number of you will still be able to attend the Aviator pub in St Ives on 12 November to raise a glass to Steve, although I understand some of you will have now made other plans (especially as it has taken so long for me to confirm).
There is no formal arrangement as such; simply a gathering of anyone who felt any connection with Steve during his life, to raise a glass and hopefully a few laughs at a pub he was interested enough in to research. We intend to be at the pub anywhere from around 2pm really. Those of you with any aversion to a bit of noise should be aware that there will be a band playing in the evening, so if you fancy a quiet time, the afternoon might be a bit more suited. The band are vintage stuff who play a variety of 50s, 60s and 70s, and are currently trying to see if they can learn the Pink Floyd track “Learning to Fly”, which was one of Steve’s favourites!)
I really hope plenty of you will still be able to make it, even if it is popping in for half an hour on your way elsewhere. If I can help anyone with directions or info or in any other way, please get in touch and I’ll do what I can.
Hope to see you there!

Indeed as YakRider says Janie and Peter T’s Spitfire XI orbitted over St Ives at around 2.30, hopefully somebody saw us, or at least heard us.

I gather a Mustang and Spitfire were in the St Ives area yesterday afternoon. Sorry I couldn’t make it, but I did help put the Spitfire away!

The best laid plans…
We set off early afternoon but the car had other plans. After about 20 miles it started vibrating alarmingly at speed. With another 180 miles of the round trip to go, nearly all of it on the A1, it seemed wise to return home – slowly.
Really sorry we didn’t manage to get there.

Sadly i will not be able to make it either, I will be thinking of Steve at this time, I intending to be there but work would not give me the time off, By a cruel twist of fate i am now sick from work after losing my voice, Something i have never had happen before, But thats another story.
I hope to meet people very soon, And still want to pay tribute to Steve, This forum is not the same without him.

I won’t be able to make this although I will join you all in raising a glass on Saturday evening. I’ll also think of Steve earlier on Saturday as I’m (weather permitting) flying into Cambridge.

Shame so many of you can’t make it, but totally understandable, especially with such short notice and it being one of the busiest weekends of the year.
Steve’s parents send their regards to you all, and will see whoever can make it on Saturday.
If anyone needs directions / phone numbers etc. please let me know and I’ll do all I can.

I’ll be in Belgium next week, so I’ll raise a glass of Belgian beer in Steve’s memory.

Mrs DHFan has something planned for the morning but we’re hoping to get there some time in the afternoon.

Unfortunately I can’t make it as we are coming to the UK the following weekend. But like Snapper I will raise a suitable glass to his memory that evening.

I’m not sure Tracey. I’d like to, but I have a busy weekend and Flo works on Saturdays meaning I’m with the girls and it’s a long drive for them. I can’t say yet. There in spirit? Definitely. I really miss Steve and still well up sometimes. Kwak is in order at home if not. Thanks for doing this, it’s really, really thoughtful of you.

He will stay forever in the hearts of those he touched. Forever a fond memory, an silver note that never fades or loses its emotional hold over us.
I will raise a glass of Oxford’s finest bitter to him on the 12th.
Yours in spirit,
Andy Reynolds

I am sure everyone understands. It can’t be that easy just dropping in here.

Tracey, if I didn’t have to be in France on that date I would be there like a shot, short notice or not.

Extra big damn and blasts. I can always do a bt of rock and roll and I would have brought up a posing pole in the hope of getting up to do a few with the band myself.

I’ll be there in spirit.
