The ‘follow on’ from Band of Brothers, an all new HBO series about the Pacific War, is now being worked on by a team of writers, and it seems Captain Dale Dye is also involved. No-one has been cast yet.
It seems they will begin with a recreation of Pearl Harbor, and follow a USO unit through the different stages of the Pacific War from there. If it is half as good as BofB it’ll be fantastic.
Does anyone know if any warbirds have been slated for appearing yet? I dear say if Pearl Harbor features, the CAF will be involved (and with Hanks and Spielberg on the job, it’ll be much better than the recent film version).
There is an excellent site here with information as it stands now, and a discussion forum. I guess more will be added as the production progresses. I’m really looking forward to this.

[B]Messrs Hanks and Spielberg know how to make a decent film
Depends what side of the fence youre on…… 😉
You want to talk to some friends of mine that were involved with the filming of Band of Brothers, not very impressed with either of them…

This one makes me nervous in that it seems they’ll be trying to take on too much. That and following a USO show. Ugh! Tom Cruise as Bob Hope?
Why not focus on a specific unit from the Pacific theatre. I keep thinking E Company, 5th Marines that raised the flag on Iwo. The book “Flag of our Fathers” would be a starting point as well as Richard Wheeler’s “Iwo” since he was an E Company vet wounded on Iwo.
That it is another Easy Company would tie in with the Band of Brothers series while moving it to the Marines and the horror of the Pacific War.

I for one am looking forward to seeing a decent depiction of the Pacific war, even if it is from a US theatrical troupe’s angle.

“The series will follow a USO troupe who travel the Pacific trying to keep Allied soldiers entertained and morally up beat about the war.”
