Still more Indian Spitfires around?

I have just started to re-read the fascinating book about Peter Vachers Hurricane. In one of the first chapters where he explains how the Hurricane was found, he also mentions that there were still three Spitfires extant in the jungle but it would take soldiers to accompany him.

Any more info about this?
