Stirling in Chinese markings

OK, what with being new to this forum and all, I may be asking a long answered question…. but what is it with some of you guys and the Stirling in Chinese markings…….. I always thought one would turn up in India (scrapped at the end of the war or at partition?) so, indulge me. whats with a Stirling in Chinese markings???? Thank you! – I’d settle for a Whirlwind, Hampden, and of course, an F-14……… after of course, a Stirling in Chinese markings is arranged…….

Some clueless muppet has recently joined the Van Nuys CAP sqdn (Condor Sqdn, all T6’s) & claims to have “a Tigercat sat in my backyard that no one knows about & it’s not in any of the books”

.. in the middle of Los Angeles….

ZRX61,

Their might be some truth to that rumor, while I was going thru allot of David Tallichets papers I came across a referrance to at least two Tiger Cats Fus. that have never been on any list. Don’t forget David purchase allot of the MGM stuff up in the early 80s and one of the list I’ve seen shows at least on Tiger Cat on it.

I recall a certain rumor about a F-6 in barn and everyone said it wasn’t true but Butch went and look and guess what he found an intact F-6 that had never been Demilled.

Don’t know about a Belgian Stirling find, would be nice though, aren’t you referring to the Vraux Stirling fuselage remains?

Cheers

Isn’t the Belgium based Stirling still whole and sitting in someone’s back garden being used as a canopy to shelter tomatoes? We add this to the what’s in your garden thread.

Just did! Or at least, the Dutch Garden shed version of the above.

It’s a long-running forum joke, with no basis in fact sadly! 😀

Hi,

A quick ‘google-at-work’ reveals:

‘OO-XAK PK136 or PK135 – Registered to Air Transport in May 1948; in 1948 registered to Tangiers Charter Company; to REAF in October 1948’ from Alex Crawfords article on Eygyptian Stirlings:http://www.acig.org/artman/publish/article_251.shtml

Belgium registered, where is it and who operated it and what was its fate!!!

I think, if you take a look back at Fouga23’s posted link, you will find the most likely operator of this Stirling and perhaps even an eventual operator.

Thanks for that Jeepman, I hadn’t heard about this example before. Blimey, a forum rumour based on fact, whatever next??

Short Stirling V 00-XAC, operating for China Air transport

crashed Kunming, China. 23rd December 1947

was the origin for this. It’s continued survival (or parts thereof) is therefore not beyond the realms of possibility although unlikely.

Better chance for the Stirlings allegedly buried by the Egyptians in the Sahara desert……….:diablo:

Aussie spits buried?

I remember that one, and crates of lend lease stuff burried (or burned and burried) I guess the Hellcats etc thrown off of aircraft carriers have been checked or have rotted away.

I think you should all start looking in the Syrian desert. I have it on good authority that a whole squadron on Spitfires is hidden there. That was the secret reason for the Israeli airstrike there this year. They wanted to keep up the prices of Spitfires as they are intending to sell their black one:diablo: I have it on good authority that they missed the location altogether, and the Spits are still there in very good condition.

What about the seven Lancaster bombers buried outside a Lincolnshire airfield? I even heard about this on BFBS radio news in the early nineties! There was also an article about this lot in an american aviation magazine. As you all might have guessed: I’m also new to this forum.
