STN TO NYO And Back

Hi Guys,

Here is my first trip report…

RYANAIR – 07/02/2007 to 13/02.2007

STN to NYO – FR54

NYO to STN – FR55

First of all I would just like to say how luckily we were to get out of STN on 07/02 before the issues on the 08/02 with the Snow!!

Outbound

After traveling 200 miles down to STN, we arrived in good time 10am for our 13:30 flight, (you know what the traffic can be like on the M1) –

Went to check which check in desk was open and our had not yet been announced as expected, got to 10:15am and the check in desk opened, managed to be at the front of the queue, checked in, no issues, took about 5 mins for 3 of us, (no extra charges on the case which was 18KG, 3KG over their limit.

Checked in… Went through a tough security check, as normal, bags and coats off etc, then after going through that had to remove shoes for another check…

Got to the lounge, had a wander around then got some dinner in the Frankie and Bennie’s…

Departing at 13:30 we made our way up to the gate an hour or so before to ensure we was one of the first on as we had not book priority tickets..

Boarded the 737-800, (did not manage to get any snaps from the gates) and sat in 26 A, B, C (3 of us)

Left on time, nice flight, pilot gave a little info regarding route which was good for a budget airline,

Nothing really to write home about for the flight… landing was as you would expect with Ryanscare, slammed down hard onto the runway, (it was my first time flying through heavy snow while landing)

Arrive 12 mins early, always good!!

Went through customs and all as expected,

Got to Europcar, picked up the VW Golf, and off we headed to Karlstad – about 180 miles.

It was a bit of an experience driving on ice to start with… however we got used to it..

Had a great time out in Sweden, Karlstad watching the WRC Rally, !! Few photos attached)

Return flight

Arrive with plenty of time as we had a 180 mile drive to the airport,

Flight was at 17:05 – checked in at 14:30..

NYO… is a pretty boring airport, only 5 gates and only one little shop, a some bar and that’s it was gone through security.

Boarded the Aircraft at 16:45 – had a 10min delay sat on the craft while the locals did the de-icing! First time for me also!

Departed at 17:15 – nice take off and not too much turbulence during the flight,

When dropping into STN we descended at some rapid rate, so much you could see the front of the plane in a bit of a dive..

As we approached to land, all seemed fine till just about 30 foot from touch down the pilot slammed it into the tarmac with extreme force which made the plane skew and looking down the cabin you could see the fuselage flex, then as soon as we that the tarmac the pilot decided to use MAX 100% reverse thrust and it felt like 100% brakes which in turn sent anything in the cabin not held down about 10 foot forward!!

As soon we made contact with the tarmac we must of only been on the runway 10 secs before he pulled an extreme left onto a taxi way!!

The only thing I can think off his they go via the shortest route to the gate to save time!!

Pulled into the gate next to the 737 – RyanAir in the Dream liner colour scheme looked nice!!

I did not take many photos at the airports, but here’s a few from the flight and trip.

Cheers

Couple of points for anyone reading with the intention of going over to there for a spotting trip. NYO is indeed a pretty dead place but if you come out of the terminal and walk along to the left you’ll see a couple of hangars where some of the yellow target towing Lears and Mu2s live. Also there should be one or two Coastguard CASA 212s hanging around.

If anyone is looking for a cheap place to stay when over to Stockholm on a trip, there’s a Formule 1 within walking distance of the
T-Bana system. You pass it on the way to Stockholm on the airport bus. It’ll be basic, as Formule 1s are, but it does the job and is only 5 minutes walk to Telefonplan t-bana station (on the red line – destination Fruängen). There’s a 24 hour Micky D’s across the road if you are a bit peckish after coming back in from the pub.
