Stoke on Trent Spitfire

Last night whilst at work my wife caught a mention on the BBC news about an appeal for the spitfire in the potteries muesum.
Can anybody shed any light on this appeal?

I guess they don’t realise there is a Spitfire cockpit for sale already for probably quite a bit less than 20K !
