I remember some months ago of a Boeing 727 that was stolen in Africa somewhere. Does anybody know what became of this 727? There was some speculation that it was stolen by smugglers or terrorists.

Hi,
Will the 727 have the engine refitted?

They at least learned from all this. In order to prevent it from being stolen again they removed the #3 engine (see pic posted by Nationwide air). :p
I might have to do that with my bike. Remove the wheels or the pedals or something.

Hi,
Yes it was an ex. American Airlines aircraft, (As you could probably tell!).

Was that a former American Airlines example or something?
And how exactly do you steal a 727 anyway?
I really like ARJ’s and, this thread gave me an idea. 🙂

Hmmm, not sure about that, by all accounts the aircraft had been ferried from MIA to Luanda, and in storage for a year or so.
There was a thread on Pprune about this incident which is more detailed than i can hope to write here. 😎

Found in Guinea in a rather sloppy new paint scheme.

I think you’ll find it was stolen from Luanda, Angola where it had been impounded. Aircraft has turned up again, repainted etc…. Africa what a wonderful place 😀 😀
