I did have a look myself, but saw nothing, and I presume the museum staff are keeping an eye out.

I take it your watching ebay and gumtree, you get jackets etc on there, an example which is probably totally innocent, but just shown as an example

Affix some “cabinet alarmed” stickers on display cases as a cheap preventative measure. Maybe source some battery operated movement sensor alarms to place in cabinets. Half the battle is making them think twice as to whether they’ll set some alarms off.

Don’t bother with the rusty knife – just let the %#+¥ suffer….

Easy fix…ban all screwdrivers!

Wonder if this will prompt a photo ban like the often derided one at another museum?
See…there may be a reason for it. Small museums can’t afford the security measures found at the British Museum.

I really doubt it.You may end up annoying more people than deterring someone who has probably got a shopping list and is capable of writing the info down or using a mobile phone.Actually allowing cameras in MAY help, possibility of the criminal being in the background of someones photo.
As for the banning screwdrivers – – that was a joke wasn’t it 🙂 are you going to search everyone and their bags for an implement that could be used , a key can undo screws.
Security needs to be raised.Put up signs saying cctv in use and dummy cameras ,make sure cabinets can’t be opened unless the cabinet is moved.
Was the museum open or closed,if closed then non of the bans would work.

Given the niche our forum covers, I’ve taken the liberty of posting this heads-up and the images on the LEMB too… the wider the net, the better the chance we can catch the thieves…

Cheers
Pete

During the recent V-Force event I was advised by a forumite of a similar theft (attempted theft) from another ‘northern’ aviation museum, also using screwdrivers to access display cabinets.

I’d prefer not to name the site, but you wonder whether there might be a connection – perhaps the forumite might provide an update.

The Iron cross, both pilots badges, breast eagles, cap and rank badges, which were stolen. Who ever took them, came prepared with a screwdriver to open the cabinet.
