The TV program, Storage Hunters, has people bid for `bins`. If you win the bin it’s yours.
One episode the bin was a hanger and within the hanger an airworthy helicopter (from memory a Hughes).
They won the bin for 40k, the helicopter was valued at 120k. They then did a deal with a local pilot and sold it for £80k.
So who leaves a fully airworthy Helicopter in a hanger and doesn’t claim it?
Even if in debt surely you would sell the aircraft to try to lesson the dept?
The pilot who bought the helicopter just flew it away. Can you do that, can you just buy a Helicopter and fly it?
The whole concept of the program defeats logic really as why anyone would leave a valuable item in a bin / hanger unclaimed seems ridiculous.
It’s set in America btw.

I think I’ve seen this show on TV Dave. Generally overweight Americans fighting with their spouses about ponying up cash because there might be something good under a tarp in a grubby lockup somewhere? Tedius crap in my opinion.

There is no such thing as “reality television”.
Think there is more reality in such as Dr Who than “reality” TV shows.

This explains some of these apparently ‘unbelievable bargain finds – but then, I’m a bit on the cynical side 🙂
As you should be…anyone who buys and flies an aircraft without having it checked would be a fool.
“Oh, there’s a aeroplane there, I’m sure whoever locked it away and apparently forgot about it has been maintaining it. Let’s put some gas in and we’ll fly it home”.
Fuel contamination, dead battery, corrosion, rodent damage, etc, etc….
I experienced auto buyers would even try to start a car until they did many checks.
There is no such thing as “reality television”.

I have heard that this particular TV show is a ‘set up’ for entertainment purposes. This explains some of these apparently ‘unbelievable bargain finds – but then, I’m a bit on the cynical side 🙂

In one episode shown two or three months ago, the lock was snapped and inside was either – I can’t remember which – a 152 or a 172. They wheeled it out, checked it over – apparently. A licensed pilot appeared and with the buyers inside, flew it away.

I think it’s television, not real life.
The pilot who bought the helicopter just flew it away
There will have been a few steps in between that were not shown. But paperwork and engineering checks really don’t make exciting viewing.
