The other day, in a more idle moment, I started re-watching the series ‘Island at War’ and in the first episode, G-BPHZ (easily identifiable by its radial engine) featured briefly.
It set me to wondering, what is the state of play with this aircraft? Last I heard it was having maintenance done, but nothing since?
And whilst on the subject of Duxford Storches, I know that the Argus engined Storch for a while in one of the hangars (5?) left some time ago, but where has it gone? And is it a permanent move?
Regards,
Chris

Ahh I see! That makes sense I thought the IWM Storch referred to the static one. I didn’t realise it had been such a quick job to get it flying having been (as long as I recall) static.
Perhaps BPHZ will emerge soon?

No -BPHZ last reported under change to Argus power .The flyer is the former IWM static

So D-ENOW Was G-BPHZ?

It left as a Morane MS.500 !

The IWM Storch has been restored by LTB Bende and is now hangared at Bonn/Hangelar as D-ENOW.

This may answer your question, no date that I can see though.

Was it due to their provenance or something? not being ‘original’ Luftwaffe examples?
The Toucan sale I think was a bad mistake, from pictures of it I’ve seen, it’s just rotting outside in Poland. That lovely finish they applied at Dux is now just a faded version of its former self.

The IWM’s static Storch was sold a few years ago, not sure where it has ended up. The reason for the sale, and that of the Amiot Toucan (Ju52) around the same time, have never really been fully explained as far as I know.
