strange Russian carrier aircraft !?!?!

In the latest AIR International is a one-page article regarding the issue “Indian Navy buys the Admiral Gorshkov” !!! together with model pictures “before” and “after” the conversion.

Nothing really new … but a closer look an the original configuration shows that there seems to be two different planes aboard the A.G. … one very slim – the Yak-38 – …. and one little larger and more bulky, esp. the air intake looks different !!!

Here are five pictures scanned from the page 15. The first showing both types in comparison and picture 2 + 3 show different enlarged details !

Any comments or more information ??
