A friend found a Bronze ring under a bush whilst on Holiday. It had developed a slight patina so had been there for some time, It has a strange script(to me!) that appears engraved all around it, both inside and outside I have reproduced as best as I can manage it. this line of script is repeated to make an almost continuous engraving.
Any ideas from the many learned and varied posters here?

Maybe the one word, Jim C, is “My preshioussssssss…!” Look out for those Ringwraiths!

Elvish has left the building
Yes,I’ve seen the rings for sale, but none made of bronze and scripted inside as well as out….and the ring does look very old.
I had a look at Wikipedia’s page on Tolkein and they say he based his Elvish language on Finnish and Welsh….anyone here speak the lingo?
Here’s another pic,not very good quality as I took it using a magnifying glass over the camera lens. It’s the same ‘word’ repeated along the ring.

Hmm, now I’ve seen the picture, that is either a genuine early English treasure or a very elaborate and beautiful souvenir from the “Rings” films.

Here’s a photo of the ring in question,I found it under a bush while looking for a ball lost by my kids!
It may well be rose gold,it certainly looks old, doesn’t look like something out of a fortnightly partwork! I must admit it does bear a strong resemblence to the ‘Lord Of The Rings’ style of writing.
It was interesting to read that Tolkien was an expert in early English….could well have influenced him.

Are you sure it is Bronze and not Rose Gold?
Bronze would be an odd material to use unless it’s a home-made ring.
Or a cheapskate plumber using an olive from an old fitting 🙂
The lettering looks Mid-Eastern and I was going to say that all-round engraving is usually associated with Wedding Rings……..but I’m not sure if the mid-east actually have wedding rings?

I’m of a similiar mind to Kev and Daz – just give it to the next passing Hobbit and do a runner.

Denis.
No real clue but try inverting the image and comparing with this link? Maybe a ring provided with a partwork accompanying the film series?
