STRANGE WW2 IRVIN HELP REQUIRED

Chatting to a friend at the weekend he showed me a WW2-type Irvin flying jacket he picked up at auction – no pix I’m afraid –

No labels but definitely ‘right’ and of age, but it was fitted with a sheepskin lined integral leather hood painted yellow – never seen this before – the obvious guess is ASR/Coastal or FAA use the hood would help to make aircrew bobbing in the sea more visible I imagine –

Anyone know more or seen a similar jacket?

Thanks in advance

I think in general, you will find that a hooded Irvin is worth rather less than a standard Irvin of similar size, condition, etc.

But, provenance and history will always add value to personal items such as these.

Brilliant – thanks Anne – are they particularly rare/sought after? I have been collecting RAF memorabilia for years and have never seen one before

All the best and thanks again

Standard Coastal Command Issue. If you can get your hands on the Osprey book The Royal Air Force 1939-45 (Men at Arms 225) there is a nice illustration of a chap wearing one in plate H-1.
