Canada is considering buying or leasing a number of C-17’s to increase our strategic airlift capability, which is currently met by C-130’s. With the cost of the C-17 being so high, an interesting alternative would be a western version of the Russian Condor. This has already been suggested to the UK MoD, with RR or P&W engines and Honeywell avionics. The price should be much less than the C-17, with a much larger heavy-lift capacity. There is no doubt that the C-17 is an excellent aircraft, but I would think the Condor would give more bang for the buck.(asuming the plane would be fully NATO compatible)
Any thoughts on this?
