Hello Again…..!
Has anyone got any images or information on the now defunct Strathallan museum and aircraft collection based at Auchterarder, Scotland. I used to work in the same building for a transport company where this was based and it was approx 2 years before I realised it….doh!
The internet is very sktchy and I can only find a couple of images. Any help would be appreciated.

Was this the best ever private European warbird collection? Difficult to top having a Lanc, Mosquito, Hurricane and several Spitfires in one place!

Those shots above are the occasion of the auction, when the collection was sold off.
The Spit G-AIST (AR213) was flown up by owner Patrick Lindsay, in his capacity as auctioneer for Christies.

Don’t forget the bitter/sweet video of the Mosquito departing the collection, and its final flypast.

I have added a few more photos. The final one wasn’t vintage then but sadly it is now.

Here is a beautiful formation.
I wonder why there are few photographs available of the Strathallan Collection. They certainly had visitors from all over the UK and some came from abroad for the shows. I know the location was a bit far away for casual visitors but perhaps the visitors were not enthusiasts. The Auction Sale day would have been a good opportunity but my own camera wasn’t working well that day.

In about 1970 I was scratching about in a wood near Flimwell, Kent, looking for bits of a Dornier 17. A scruffy chap in a duffle coat and untidy hair ambled up and asked what I was doing. When I told him he said that he had lots of old ‘planes up in Scotland. He was flying up there the next day. Would I like to go with him? My reply? “Nah…I’m going to a party with my girlfriend”. Truthfully, I thought he was a fantasist. Spitfire? Hurricane? Lancaster? Yeah right! Bidding farewell, he shook my hand, and asked my name. “I’m Willie” he said. “Oh…and its my land you are on by the way. But no matter!”
Later I discovered he was Sir William Roberts of Strathallan, who owned Combwell Priory just alongside the wood.
Ever regret making a bad decision? Oh well.

A few more here
Good to see these other shots Robert : that’s the true value of these archived photos, of aircraft that have been disposed of, or have otherwise gone, perhaps forever, but these snapshots in time will live on. All credit to you for your forward thinking, back then. Regards, Brian S.

“Warbird Registry” has it down as AS.6 WD833, which subsequently went via Cornwall to the States, however its last mention is in 2002 (as being in Blaine, Minnesota under restoration).
Any Firefly lovers care to update us?
Somewhere in Texas apparently; I had thought it was with Ray Middleton, but apparently not.

Was that the show that had the CAF Argus doing flypasts? I remember going to two – one with INRG and I ended up helping to push aircraft about for refuelling (including the Spitfire) and the other I biked there on my long sadly departed KH250.

Ah, was that at St Merryn with the Grace Spitfire at some stage?
Thanks for the link Thunderbird, just the ticket. It’s surprising just how many important aircraft passed through Strathallan.

Probably been asked before but what happened to that Firefly.?

I might be well off the mark here, but:
Spitfire XIV – to Spencer Fack as G-FIRE, currently now in the USA.
Lancaster – to Charles Church. Damaged in hangar collapse at Woodford and later with Kermit Weeks.
Hurricane – ended up with Canadian Warplane Heritage, lost in hangar fire in 1993.
Fairey Battle – to Charles Church. Now in Brussels, Belgian AF museum.
I think??
I’m also fairly sure the Magister is still flying, or at least it was about 5 or 6 years ago with an owner up here in Scotland.
