I thought that this picture maybe of interest.
Not sure if many of you have ever sen a picture of this Swordfish Mk IV HS498 before. I certainly had not seen any pictures of it prior to seeing it last year. To my knowlegde it is the only Swordfish left with the Canadian hood still on in Canada. I think the stored RAF Museum example may still have its hoods.
It currently is in store with the Reynolds Museum in Alberta Canada. I am pretty sure that it is one of the former Ernie Simmonds aircraft from Tillsonburg Ont. Most of the Simmonds aircraft flew with the no 1 NAG school in Yarmouth NS during the war.

Hey, tks for the reply

Yes, I would very much like to see those pictures.

Do you mind also e-mailing them to me mlemieux@viconics.com

When I visited, smack in the middle of the winter, the storage area was not accessible.

You like in beautifull Halifax hey 🙂

Any news or recent pictures on Elisabeth, the Shearwater Firefly ?

Take good care

Hi Michel,
Welcome. I am located in Halifax NS. I do actually have pictures of the entire storage area and workshops. I will post these as well if you like. It is a great collection. They are presently restoring the oldest Dragon Rapide in existence to fly. It is planned to fly it next year. I have already been promised a ride !! A lot of the interesting aircraft are not actually at the museum, but across the airfield.

Actually the canopy wasn’t a permanant fit, and its addition (or removal) isn’t a major change to the structure, so Dave’s point is a good one, but it’s not like remanufacturing an a/c. Also the ‘Mk.IV’ designation is not the ‘official’ one, just something used to differentiate it. Would have made a lot of sense on the MAC Ships and arctic run!

RAF Swordfish…

I saw the RAFs example in store earlier this year…it still had the hood attached to it. The curator did tell me that when it is restored it may well have the hood removed as it is not representative of service in the UK!!!
