Strobe lights on the rear of aircraft

Was just sat in my study observing some inbounds to Manchester, and was wondering why some types have a strobe at the rear end, 737, 777, Airbus and so on, but just seen a 757 and they don’t have this.

What permits this on a type, design or any other reason?

God can’t you tell I am board.

According to EASA, you need one or more strobe lights. Therefore, no specific requirement for one at the rear.

There is a requirement for position lights to be as far apart as possible – the red light is on the left side, and the green light is on the right side – and for a white to be as far aft as possible, or one of the aft end of each wingtip.
