Dunno if this has been mentioned yet, but according to the 23-29 March issue of Flight International, an Su-27M has begun flying with AL-41F1 engines. First flight was 5 March. The engine is supposed to put out 33,000lb of thrust (it’s a reduced-scale version of the MFI’s 44,000lb version) and is targeted at improved Su-27-series aircraft according to the news blurb. Doesn’t say if it has thrust-vectoring though.
So, does this mean that the AL-41 will in fact potentially be powering production Su-34s?
