Su-34 Black-out curtains ??

I’m just modifying the Italeri 1/72 scale model Su-34 kit – to make one of the new ‘black’ Su-34’s – borts 05 and 10.

I’m trying to replicate the ‘curtains’ on the inside of the cockpit.

They are on runners on the canopy arches and appear in most photos folded down at the sides and up on the central arch.

They can be seen fully deployed in this photo and folded up in this image – and this one.

They look even bigger and more prominent on the black painted Su-34

My question is – what are they for????

They can’t be for training blind-flying on instruments ???

Are they anti-flash curtains – is the Su-34 configured for the nuclear strike role ??

Surely they aren’t just to save the crews blushes when using the toilet ??? :diablo:

Any ideas anyone ??
