Sub-forums

Modern military now have sub-forums (one of wich is Navy 😀 ). Any suggestions on how this forum could be sub-divided, time periods, aircraft types or individual aircraft, air shows etc?

Oops! Posted pix of Sherman tanks the other day – is this the kind of slippery slope that we shall cruise down before long?

The only reason MM got the three new ones was that the threads devoted to the topics were getting larger large, meaning the board was slowing down a bit for those viewing the topics.

Have to ask if these forums are going to be aviation based. Have to do that before potentially posting pix of MkIV (WWI) tanks and Ironclads, or asking questions about Roman sandels and Aztec worshipping rituals…;) – Nermal

Is this the right forum for the hysterical argument? Or down the corridor?

We don’t plan to create any more sub forums on this board at the moment. The only reason MM got the three new ones was that the threads devoted to the topics were getting larger large, meaning the board was slowing down a bit for those viewing the topics.

To many sub divisions are a bad thing on forums IMHO, so I think the cleaving stops here for a while.

Sub-sub-forums

An interesting experiment could be to have two sub-forums (sub-fora? sub-forii?) in here – one for Spitfires and one for everything else. And I bet the Spitfires one will still get the most hits…. 😉

…and then we could have sub-sub-forums for Spitfire scale and non scale replicas and sub-sub-sub-forums for replicas using the same base structure as the replica Spitfires. 🙂

On balance I think we should leave well alone.

Perhaps we could all school ourselves to give improved and more comprehensive thread titles and ask the webmaster if he can provide an editing function for the title box after posting. This would allow additional titling as the thread weaves its way and avoid un-correctable typos like ‘Fist fight in a Lanc’ and I’m still smiling at that one.

What say you?

Anyway – has anyone else noticed that there have been two new sub forums added and the stability of the whole site has been decidedly ropey?
I have been kicked out once and had to make several attempts to post my usual rubbish whilst the ‘Our technical team has been informed’ message crawls onto my screen – eventually. Have they bitten off more than they can chew?

An airshow forum would be fairly dead in the closed season, even with the help of our ‘colonial’ friends!;) It would end up with a lot of fighting over speculation of what would be the surprise at the next Legends, and people moaning that you don’t get the same quality of rumours that you used to in the old days (ie two-plus years ago).

We need a long range weather forecast forum. 🙂

Call me old fashioned, but I like things the way they are. Shouldn’t his thread be elsewhere

Hi Tuck.
It exists; it’s called the General Discussion forum. Trouble is, that’s all it is, and for some of us the backchat in thread and the o/t nature of the threads is the charm of the hysteric forum. I’m gilty of making lighthearted remarks, and diverting threads (sorry Mum) but I prefer that than a kind of military style regidity to the forum. Just a personal opinion.

Cheers / Salut

How about a pub, hanger, canteen, or 19th hole where all those wanting to chat about what time their going out, hows the dog, etc, can talk.
Sometimes its hard work sifting through a thread, going through all their personnal chatter trying to find a spot to reply to the original thread.

An airshows forum might be another good area, otherwise it would be death by sub division, IMHO.

I feel I am already in a specialist enclave.

Personally, I’d rather not see that happen.

My experience on other (non- aviation) boards where this has happened is that people float off to their specialist enclaves and the whole feel of the board suffers.

As the man said “If it aint broke, dont fix it!”
