Thanks to a friendly colleague, I got the oppurtunity yesterday to have a closer look at the aformentioned DC-8 and Caravelles at Stockholm Arlanda Airport…as well as some other interesting aeroplanes while driving around on the aprons:

Three Caravelles are now at the same place, creating a mini-museum… this is SAS SE-DAF, which belongs to the Arlanda Aerospace Expo but it has been stored outside for 31 years.

ex-SE-DAA, without nose to make tow training easier.

SE-DAI, of Le Caravelle Club, next to the old Transjet 747

What a nice museum! Pity no one on the outside can visit it…

The former Transjet 747 was about to leave in February but was returned to its parking spot where it has been for three years already.

This gem was hiding in one of the hangars. DC-8-62F ST-UAA of United Arabian Airlines has been here for maintenance and was about to leave…

…but not before I got a chance to enter the flight deck and sample the smells of a 33 year old DC-8. This is the next-to-last built DC-8.

The flight engineer’s panel

After a while, it was towed to the engine test bay where its four JT3D’s sang for everyone within a considerable radius…

Some apron shots: unmarked Britannia 757 SE-DUP

Tinybus from Lufti…

SAS 737-600 arriving to the domestic terminal

Snowflake now only exists as a discounted economy class, but the painted aeroplanes still fly

ATP Freighter by West Air Europe

…and another surprise: Antonov An-12 by Heli Air of Bulgaria
That’s that! Hope you enjoyed!
And, finally, my thanks to someone without whom I would never have been able to do this:
TACK VENDELA!!!

Did Sandy’s signature appear on the DC-8 by any chance ?
hehe

Didn’t see one…. 😀 but the Philippino mechs were very nice as were the Swedish ones. The galley consisted of one microwave oven next to a porta-potty behind a drape…
@LBARULES: Weather was quite gloomy yesterday so all shots were dark but I understand what you mean. I wouldn’t be surprised if the lack of an airline title is because a new name is coming for Britannia Nordic as well.

Excellent shots 🙂
G-CDUP (SE-DUP), looks rather sad like that, does anyone know if it will be coming back onto the UK register next year?

I know the owners. Good people.
I’m not surprised it looks good. They know that a well kept plane keeps longer than one run into the ground.
Thats what happened to an Alaskan MD82/3…the airline was too concentrated on making money and slightly slack on its engineering and one day on a flight from Peurto Vallerta to Los Angeles the plane crashed.
Proves a good point that does about looking after a plane.

Nice shots there. That DC-8 is very well looked after as that doesn’t look anywhere near 33 years old.
