Successfull Vertical Landing by a Fixed-Wing Aircraft

Command-Aire 3C3 NC521E hit a pole and kept nearly undamaged (at least optically). Considerations about giving up helicopter development had only a short life for the subsequent take-off problem became not sufficiently solved.

The picture is again from the Het Leven collection. If somebody knows something about this accident, please tell.

Hope you enjoyed, and regards, RT

It came to grief whilst the pilot was attempting to plug it in to the PPS (pole power source).

Attaching the flying line to the rotating arm was supposed to keep the plane from wrapping itself around the pole. Obviously didn’t work this time.

This was actually the worlds first electric aeroplane, the Buzz Lightning built in 1934 .It came to grief whilst the pilot was attempting to plug it in to the PPS (pole power source). Afterwards they adapted the technique to airships and also to gate guardians ,including helicopters.u
