Sud-Ouest SO 4050 Vautour (Vulture), prototypes, pre-serie & serie, not a very well known aircraft but they saw actions with Israel several time.
Quite a big bird !
Enjoy,

There was indeed a civilian registered Vautour flown on the warbird circuit approximately ten years ago. She is grounded with hydraulics problems.
Willy
FYI, I’ve now found the attached photo which I took of the civil registered Vautour when it was displayed at Ferte Alais. I’ve also attached a shot of the example preserved by the Musee de’l Air at Le Bourget, in the days when it was on show on the main ramp. I recall visiting Reims air base and seeing many examples operational back in the late sixties/early seventies.

I’d like to see one next to a Canberra – where their roles similar?
Canberra was slightly larger but looked squatter. Canberra span = 64ft, len = 66ft. Vatour span = 49ft 6in, len = 51ft.
A couple of Vatour sqns used to visit with us regularly when I was on B(I)8s at Geilenkirchen for very agreeable “mutal” play-days. Noisy beasts and, as I recall, prone to hydraulic snags.

Hi Charley,
“Aeronauts” must be “les chevalier du ciel” according to Google search.
Yes they are available on DVD (I will search for you latter , I’m at work now!!!)
About the cost, it was more for the tax payer than for the production, as the French Air Force and the army in general used this as “public relation” or “propaganda” .
Cheers,
Olivier

It was called “The Aeronauts” over here and shown on BBC. Do you know if it is available in France on DVD or video? Must have cost a lot of money to make if it featured jet-flying scenes.

Been fond of the Vautour ever since seeing it in my “Aeronauts” annual. Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the TV series? Doesn’t matter if it’s in French; I can usually understand French TV.
Hi Charley,
Do you mean “les chevalier du ciel” ?
Cheers,

IIRC a Vatour stood at Kenley for a number of weeks in the late 1950s. The Daily Mail had organised a contest to see who could make the fastest trip between London and Paris (Marble Arch and Arc de Triomphe?), and one of the entrants was a frenchwoman. She persuaded the air force to lend her a Vatour and pilot – easier than it sounds as I believe she had been a heroine of the Resistance. However the pilot mistook disused Kenley for his destination and landed there, damaging the aircraft so that it could not be flown out.
There was an article in Flypast some years ago…

Breguet Deux Ponts restaurant
At last! I can reveal my French secret – “Le Breguet” restaurant not far from La Ferte Alais, at the Aerodrome de Chaubuisson, 77610 Fontenay-Tresigny. I was there with AIB and Mike J and even managed to snap the owner, M. Charpentier, I believe.
The aircraft is F-BACC, and the coffee is great! Unfortunately we didn’t have time for a meal, but I am sure it is well worth a visit. There is a swimming pool too! 40 km from Paris, off the N4.

On of the two last preserved in France (justfour were used by French Air Force):
It’s a Sahara the marmy type of the Breguet “Deux-Ponts”
It hasn’t engine. Four replica of them were build.
You can picts of them on Airliner.com

NC900, could I be VERY cheeky and put in a request?. In your vast collection of French gems, have you any pictures of the Breguet 765 Sahara?. It has been my favorite Frence aircraft since I saw one at R.A.F. Odiham in the early seventies. Eaven then at the tender age of six it impressed me!.
