Suffolk overhead

Just to lighten the mood a little – this forum does tend to focus on light aircraft coming to grief – my Go-Pro capture of Suffolk yesterday

It does seem that Van’s are getting something right. The LAA fleet appears to be dividing between RVs and The Rest.

There is lots to be said for The Cub. With a few hundred hours on the PA22-108 I have a lot of time for 80 knot, rag & tube bimbling. Thing is, with my available hours running out seemingly ever faster, the time has come for something that can get me further quicker. 🙂 Happy to trade rides any time.

White Waltham is getting full up with RV,s . I remain altogether faithful to my 65 year old Cub and its slightly baggy fabric, but, a bit like being on a topless beach, you find your gaze wandering, and you start having…. thoughts. I wonder what it would be like to………..No No No!

What sort of flash Harry wants to cruise in comfort at 140 knots , and have aerobatic capability, and get in and out of strips ! What a load of rubbish.

Well, going over and checking it’ll give me something to do next time I’m up for a bimble 🙂

Perhaps it is just my imagination regarding something being written on runway,
maybe something has been stored by farmer ?

Quite likely :highly_amused:

I have recently been very pleased to come across the acronym B.A.R.F, finding it stands for Benign Age Related Forgetfulness. Somehow it sounds better than ‘losing it’ when used to explain one of those ‘Why did I come to this room?’ moments.

Nothing I can see??

M

Looks like something written in the middle of Hardwick’s runway, with an attempt to paint over it.
Either actually on the runway itself , or as a request to Google Maps.

Smart looking aircraft, although it could do with some gold lettering. Perhaps your name under the canopy, in case you forget
who you are ? 🙂

What is the old bus this time ?

If it is a Cherokee 140 ( which it looks a bit like ) suggest you refer to the operators manual.

Just copy and paste this lot into the search box in Google Maps and it should find it for you

Under the circumstances it would have been surprising if you weren’t a little apprehensive. Well done for “getting back on the horse” though.

After my recent little problem I did wonder if the magic of flight had been lost.

I find myself driving to the airfield with a certain amount of trepidation, and even thought long and hard as to whether to buy a replacement aircraft.

But climbing over that layer of fluffy cumulus, and finding myself in the clear blue beneath the high altitude clouds I suddenly found myself back in an unlimited playground in the sky. A chance to gently ease back into aerobatic flight, to feel free and unfettered in a world so few will ever experience. The sheer privilege of having the gift of wings came flooding back.

Returning to the field I still bogged-up two approaches in a pretty stiff crosswind mind you.

Given the conditions it would have been poor form not to have taken advantage of them. Brilliant shot too. And people ask why we fly.

Ta – yes, no doubting that! I couldn’t get it to give me the right Hardwick…

What else could I do?

*Jealous* But if you can, then why not? Don’t blame you one bit!

Yes, that’s the spot. If I could find it on Google Maps I’d agree or disagree, but right now I can’t…

Tibenham / Hardwick / Thorpe Abbotts / Fersfield / Eye sort of area as far as I can tell from SkyDemon.

I finished a four week long and unstimulating project mid-morning, the sky was blue and white, the wind fairly moderate and the forecast for the rest of the week wasn’t brilliant. What else could I do?

The new aircraft has a Go-Pro mount on the coaming already so I thought I’d just experiment with a few minutes video, the still is a lift from it.

Moggy

Edit: Just taken a look and if you mean the one where a belt of trees has replaced a runway I think that’s Hardwick

I know they’re all funny in Suffolk, but upside down?

Seriously, that looks great fun, and beautiful flying conditions. Any idea where you were over? I think I can spot an old airfield…
