Sunderland Airshow pics 29/30 July 06

The Sunderland Airshow is a two day free seafront show in the bay between Roker and Whitburn. There were a general mix of aircraft types performing, but never enough warbirds for me!

Saturday was VERY hazy, as can be seen from the Red Arrows pic with the RFA ship in the background, so not great for photography; Sunday was much clearer. One of the problems of the Sunderland show because of the bay, is that the display line is a long way out from the crowd at crowd centre. Added to that was that I spent the day progressively moving back from the flight line because the tide was coming in!! Once or twice I got wet feet while focusing on the planes and not the water.

The most precise flying of the weekend had to be the seagulls diving for fish.

There were plenty more “attractions” to sea on the warm sunny beach, and as my wife wasn’t with me, I made the most of this additional visual entertainment.

The BBMF Spit and Hurricane only made it on Sunday due to bad weather down south. The Lanc was grounded for an engine change apparently.
