Just putting the finishing touches to a model decal sheet which features Sunderland G-BJHS and I’m missing a couple of bits if information.
Can anybody confirm if the style of font on the underwing civil registration changed when they reapplied the fuselage registrations.
Also……….. when she wore the Ryan Air livery in 1989 she was named Spirit Of Foyness. On the starboard nose she has a name possibly in Gaelic ? Has anyone a picture of this wording ? It needs to be a good quality picture where I can work out the wording and the font/layout to ensure scale accuracy.
Any help or pointers would be hugely appreciated 🙂

Martin – the photo that I quoted ‘Faing’ from is on the un-numbered colour plate page after page 208 in the book The Last Flying Boat – ML814 Islander by Peter Smith (Ensign Publications 1993). The photo shows the aircraft from a 3/4 front view, not side-on, but gives a reasonable idea of what the font and positioning looked like.

Many thanks for the info given by you both. It is of course Foynes with one S.
Great that we know the wording. Just holding out for a clear enough image. Keeping my fingers crossed Short Finals 😉
Many thanks in advance

The English version of the name was “Spirit of Foynes” (one “s”). I have a number of slides of the starboard side taken whilst the aircraft was at Killaloe in Co. Clare and will see if any are sharp enough to show the name clearly (the first two words are “Aisling Na” so I just need to confirm the translation of the “Foynes” part).
