Sunderland query

Hello guys and gals 🙂

I’m hoping that someone might be able to help me (and the Duxford Sunderland’s Conservation team). I’m (they) are looking for photographs of the IWM’s Sunderland ML796 BEFORE her incarnation as a cafe in France, particularly any of her during her service years. I have trawled the IWM’s archives with no results, so I am now posting this plea in the hope that one of you somewhere just might have a pic or two stashed away (or in a book…the “boys” already have “Sunderland at War” by Chaz Bowyer, but if there is anything else out there of interest…)

Really hoping someone can help (and the “boys” would be very grateful…they are nice guys and I would like to help them in their quest if I can)

Many thanks in advance
Becka

Not really relevant to this thread but looking at ML796 yesterday I said “Wassat under the wingtips?” Complete waste of time as I knew the two people I was with wouldn’t have a clue. So, what are those bulges under the wings? They’re even more obvious now as the floats currently aren’t fitted.

They are radomes housing the scanners for the ASV VIc radar.

My guess would be radar pods?

Oh fantastic 😀 I will pass this on to the team 🙂

(Many thanks Willow for giving me the heads up on this post, having real problems with network and e-mails at work at the mo so forum time has been extremely limited :()

Brilliant pic Laurent, we don’t seem to see too many pics of the porcupine in French Navy colours, anymore ? :p

Hello,

I recently had the opportunity to go through an old stock of posters our association had been selling in the past, and I came accross this picture:

Althought the serial is partly hidden, it looks like to be ML796.

Maybe it is too late for you, unfortunately.

Laurent
