Sunny Manchester – a few from this weekend

Best were:

  • The Alitalia Express E-Jet (there was also an ERJ-145 in the afternoon but I missed photographing it! 🙁 )
  • The Balkan Holidays TU-154 (at last I’ve managed to get some good pics of one of those!)
  • The Czeck Air 737-500 (again, been trying to catch the 80th anniversary jet for ages!)
  • The Privatair, operating for Airbus, A319CJ

Skymonster, awesome photos. Can I ask you how do you get to the locations that you took the photo’s ? Would I be right in assuming that you carry on down the Wilmslow road past the Aviation Park and under the tunnel and turn left ?

Thanks, and yes you are! Right, that is! Under the runways, hang a left at the roundabout, park in the little lane between the gate and the hotel (no no-parking lines in that lane, but don’t obstruct it!). Then its a walk! Cross back across the main road (heading west), up the steps, and follow the path. You go behind the new runway fire station, and then down to the Bolin River and up the other side. After that, you’re above the fence and where you stand depends on whether you get rotations, still on the runway, or climbers – its usually a mixed bag at any point on the bank as different a/c rotate at different places. The approach shots were taken from the field next to the Trident fire trainer – there’s a footpath across the field although the sign for it is well disguised by foliage right now, but its just on the first 90 degree left hand bend in the road at that end of the airport.

I’v become a bit detached from the forum and aircraft in general over the last few months as I’v been in a new job that has taken too much of my time out. Hoping to head over to Manchester in the next few weeks for some photos !

Cheers

G.

Great pictures again Andy, I need a wee trip to MAN this year for shots too. In fact I think I’ll go ahead and book myself a flight today.

I am blown away by everyone of those shots…. Absolutely exceptional.

If I had to pick a few faves… er… The BGH 154, Excel 752, MON A300 and Privatair shots.

Superb 🙂

Blue Thunder often has a “look-see” at the spotters on the southern perimeter.

Just doing what we pay them for, I suppose.

Thanks guys…

Yes, I think that the A300 looks magnificent in Monarch’s new colours (first time I’ve seen one in new colours). The Copper Chopper seemed to be checking us out – a friend I was with had a HUGE lens and later the ground cops came past for a close look, but left us alone. Seriously, no idea, it came from the north, went up and down the soruthern perimeter and then went back north again.

I see Peter Max was in Manchester again today – seems like I always pic the wrong day, as that’s another I still need to photograph.

Very impressive collection of photos especially the Czech Air one one question, Have you any idea why the copper chopper was so low?
