L.O.L. No, I mean as you look from the Land towards the Lighthouse. Ever been to the top, into the Lantern room?. Now that’s where you want to be to get some great shots.

Ahh, Mr Brugggen, South Stack Lighthouse, This, apart from a Frontal shot, is a very hard Lighthouse to photograph, there is only about 3 places where you can get a good shot. I like it, and it would satisfy ME.Although I would try and get rid of that bit of ground in the foreground.

Hi Jim, what do you mean by a frontal shot? do you suggest I hire a boat:D ..

I would doubt VERY much that Axel, has just started out on the road of photography. Ask anyone who has just started photography what the rule of 2/3 ds are, and they will look at you gone out. I did advise him however to get A/P magazine, where he will learn more from that, than he will on here.

Sorry Mrs BB, I was working on a presunption that you were male.
By: BumbleBee - 17th December 2013 at 22:06
I like the first one Mr BB.
I’m distracted as the tree is at the side. A better sky pic but the tree pulls the eye away.
But that’s why I like the tree in it, because of the contrast between the dark tree and the red sky.
Everyone’s view is so different, and it’s good to hear another opinion.
( Er… Mrs. BB )
By: BumbleBee - 17th December 2013 at 22:01
I can’t see anything wrong with it 😀
The only thing is, personally I’d have taken the photo from a slightly different position. I don’t much like the way the pointy bit of the promontory or whatever you call it,echoes the shape of the cliff.
I didn’t mean it was you sounding snotty, it was my comment.
Love the bird,btw.
By: Bruggen 130 - 17th December 2013 at 21:48
OK this sounds a bit snotty, but I’m genuinely interested. Can you give an example of a photo that’s good, and explain why it’s good ? I’m not criticising what you said, just curious.
I think this ok but I do know whats wrong with it, so I would be happy to hear your opinion, btw If I came across as Snotty I didn’t mean to sorry.

I like the first one Mr BB.
First you see the tree and then you see the sky. The other two I’m distracted as the tree is at the side. A better sky pic but the tree pulls the eye away.

all you get on here and other sites “Is good pic, Oh nice shot.” when 90% of picture are not good

Like a lot of things in life, IMO the best way to learn is to listen to as many opinions/advice as possible then take from all those sources what works for you… for example, someone put a link up from a photography wbesite (may even have been AP) which gave advice on taking photos of aeroplanes and they advised always using the highest posssible shutter speed.. to illustrate this they used a shot of a prop-driven aeroplane with a perfectly sharp and frozen propeller!

I’m not surprised they would look blank at the rule of 2/3rds. I though it was the rule of thirds. 🙂
Many on here have taken photos for many years so there is plenty of experience and useful advice. Some comment more accurate than others obviously.

How is anybody who is just starting photography going to learn anything with a “stuff those who tell you that you should have done this or that”
this is why all you get on here and other sites “Is good pic, Oh nice shot.” when 90% of picture are not good, but any criticism or help gets a comment like yours Linc

The rising or setting?? sun on the cliffs is beautiful! It almost has an ethereal quality.
By: duxfordhawk - 17th December 2013 at 17:35
I totally agree with that, I also tend to think if the shot I have taken doesn’t please me, it certainly will not please somebody else. However if it pleases me and not others at least one person in the world likes it.
Here are two of mine

You will learn more by listening to CONSTRUCTIVE criticism then a page full of people saying “ooh that’s good ” whilst thinking something else.I think you said in another thread you had a Sony camera-do they have a dedicated users forum ?
The rule of 3rds is basically this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_of_thirds BUT rules can be bent.
Main thing is to enjoy doing it whilst learning :).
