Super Connie coming

It is yet unconfirmed, but I just received an email stating that the C-121c Super Connie that is based in Camarillo, California, will be leased for a period of 4 years by the Swiss Connie Club.

After that 4 year period, the aircraft will be bought by the Swiss, which means that it will stay in Europe! Keep in mind that this machine, unlike the Dutch one, is allowed to fly passengers on a limited base. Hope they will be putting tanks to the wingtips.

ETA will be the spring of 2004. This means 2 Connies in the circuit next year 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 BW Roger

Great news on the Connie Roger, I’d been worried that the Swiss project wasn’t going anywhere when things went quiet about a year ago, good to see it back on track!
As the for the Spit Vs Connie argument,I’m not gonna start throwing teddies about it-they’re both simply gorgeous. The P38 is one of my all time favourites, and the Connie is in many ways like a giant P38-can’t go wrong! 😎

This is very good news. The greatest moment in my spotting ‘career’ was seeing Connies operating from Miami in 1990. One at the old while another landed. If only we in the UK could do something like this. But I guess its a combination off the CAA and ‘if its not WW2 its not worth it’. Would rather see a connie than a squadron of Spits:D .

They stop you using anything remotely useful by stating that if you ate dollops of it for every meal for the next 100 years there’s a 1 in a million chance that you could get a slight headache.

Well, that’s in my experience anyway

Sorry, ‘discussion’

Never, never, never, call it an argument.

Unless there are several teddies and a clanger involved

Connies and Spitfires both feature in my top 10 favourite aeroplane list.

Where does that leave me in this argument????

Seriously though, I think the point is that one man’s attack of the vapours when he sees a Spitfire, is another man’s faster heartbeat when he sees a Connie. It wouldn’t do if we all liked the same thing would it?

Oh I see, so those Vietnam camouflaged Connies, Indian Air Force brown camouflaged Connies, dark grey US Navy Connies, midnight blue and white US Navy Connies, silver and dayglow US Navy and USAF Connies,…………..were all figments of the imagination then.

What has happened to the original Connie that was supposed to be coming to the Swiss Connie Club?
It was still at Avra Valley when I visited in February, and looked to be undergoing heavy maintenance.

Is it not coming now, and if not what is its future?

Connie 99% , DC-2 100%.

That’s all I can say. I have very good hopes. BW Roger
