Do we class the Super Sabre as an historic aircraft? I have been asked if by my Uncle in Canada about an F-100 that resides in Wales (he said Cardiff). Does anyone know anything about this?
Any help apreciated…

The three airframes were on loan from the USAF museum in a similar way to the other MDAP aircraft scattered about the U.K. They were disposed of in accordance with their instructions and watched by some fairly bemused USAF
officials sent to verify it!. There was no auction as such

Ok,perhaps not that local then 😀 I was working from memory so it’s much more likely that W&R is correct.

IIRC,the T33,Super Mystere and the Super Sabre were the last three airframes on the old museum site and were sold as a job lot at auction to a local scrappy.
How local? W&R16 gives them as Mil-Ver Metals, of Coventry…

This is the F100 at the Wales Aircraft Museum, Cardiff.
I took this shot way back in 1987 I believe it was cut up not long after the museum met its end somewhere around 1996.

Used to be one at the Wales Aircraft Museum, at Rhoose, Cardiff. Former French AF F100D 42160 (done out as Triple Zilch when I saw it in either 1981/82), Mystere 59, and T33 29963 were cut up after being put out to tender in Febuary 1998; they were supplied under MDAP so I suppose had to be officially treated like other similar ‘lend-lease’ aircraft when up for disposal. Info from W&R16.

Wrecks & Relics 19 lists 9 F100 in the UK but none in Wales.
