…The old friend being my Bigma! It packed up at LHR last September when myself and fellow photographer Jason Nicholls returned from Cyprus (as I’m sure Lance will remember, for I threw one immense paddy and stormed off to catch my train!) Rubbish weather and lack of money meant I haven’t been able to get it fixed until now but it arrived back yesterday, all happy and working, so I decided to take the ‘B’ camera to LBA today (350D + Bigma) and leave the 30D + L glass at home.
I have to say, having been used to the 70-200L I can tell the difference. With the Bigma I don’t quite get that absolute sharpness or that pretty much perfect exposure right out of the camera. Optically it simply isn’t as good, and that does show. What I do get, however, is one of the most versatile lens for shooting aviation in the world and one that frankly, is tremendous fun to use. I really did enjoy shooting with it today and in a way I’d forgotten just what a superb lens it is. I think for future UK aviation trips the combination of 70-200L and Bigma will be superb. I’m still searching for a lens that has the best combination of both lens’ qualities but so far the only one I’ve found is the 28-300L IS. Unfortunately I don’t have a spare £1500 sitting around!
Anyway, on with some photos. The first two (shot on the D50), show just what a superb day it was weather-wise and were taken at Yeadon Tarn, a wonderful spot literally right on the perimeter of the airport.

And this post’s random pic…

And finally…

I need say no more!
Thanks for looking!

Great selection there, tell me though…does anyone else think the Bmi Embraer 145 looks a bit like a Lockheed Starfighter when pictured from that angle…?

Anyone else think the huge Yorkshire sign makes the plane look clutterd and smaller?
Like the BMI pic, what type of plane is that then? Embraer ERJ what?

Nice shots.
Looks like you had brilliant weather up at the tarn. Nice to see the LS 752 which is branded Jet 2 New York. Wonder how that is configured now and how it will be configured come October time??

Some excellent pics there Paul, although I must say my favorite is actually the Eastern Airways one, I love their latest livery!
Just a quick question, who is ‘Capital’ (the shot after the Flybe ERJ), are they actually an airline or possibly a charter operator?
