Does anyone have any idea of this aircraft on its first flight? Ive seen referance to it being natural metal but then looking at photos of her she doesnt look natural metal when you compare it to photos of others that where known to be natural metal. Ive also herd somewhere that someone has dug up the crash site and they think it was Light Aircraft grey but from what i can gather that colour didnt exist at that time.
Can anyone provide more infomation or thoughts on this?

This is the aircraft Frank Furlong crashed in isn’t it?
Also that it had as standard Mk XIV Spitfire fuselage. Any parts of the wings found. Is there a lot of wreckage still down there or just fragments.

That is true….nope not much at all….but enuff for a display board…sad story really…

Sorry Ollie…I was not trying to be obtuse! Just got too much on at the moment…..anyway, here are a couple of phots for you…It is not PRU blue….may have had silver wings but I do not think so. It had a screen more akin to a spitty internal….in one shot you can see the part held against another piece still on a screen (found near Salisbury though years ago!). In another shot you see the Type 371 legend and in another part of the duck egg green/blue spinner
I will be at Legends, so if anyone wishes to identify the grey better than I have, I am happy to take a sample…(of skin that is…not urine…that would just be taking the ****!!!) cheers Tony

SUPERMARINE SPITEFUL PROTOTYPE COLOURS

I have studied this aspect for some time now and the conclusion I have come to is that the fuselage was PRU blue [ yes I know!] and the wings were
natural metal. The other prototype which appears this colour was the Spitfire
MK 21 and somewhere this is mentioned in the text of a book.
The black and white photos if you compare the two show no difference
in tone.

Ollie, it was discussed in the other thread…use the search function…I do not know what you mean about light aircraft grey not being around….
Being no expert in aircraft colours i thought it was a more modern colour than this era thats all.

Im guessing your not wanting to discuss this further then. I was asking a genuine question as i am trying to help a fellow modeller.

If you are talking NN660, I have the licence and we are digging it at the moment. It was not natural metal….it was discussed during the thread where all aviation archaeologists were told they were not and that their efforts would not yield anything useful to history.
How is the dig going? Do you have any airframe parts that show the colour yet?
