Researching this type, would like to find a photo of her in the air, only problem is every reference says there is only one known flying shot wings level over Hendon during the 1934 Pageant ( which I have – but won’t use ) Surely there must be more than one (flying) photograph of this aeroplane somewhere.
During June 1937 she was declared obsolete and moved to Orfordness, a range, where she was used as a target. Does anyone know if this site has been cleared or has anyone (Tangmere?) even looked at it?
I knocked up some profiles at different stages of her life, they still need some tweaking but you can see where I’m coming from.
cheers

I dunno whether to like that or not! If we got shot of the gullwing and gave it retractable gear, it would look rather good! :p
It would not have made it into squadron service with the crank wing, Mitchell was about to ‘iron’ it out. Whether retracs would have been fitted is another matter, they’re not shown in the 1934 catalogue, the staight wing 224 was.

If we had no Spitfire……….
The Merlin would have probably made it into the 224, put on a canopy and into squadron service…………the Shrew (?)

Do you have any referance material for the cockpit of this machine?
I’ve had a good look at my material and can safely say no.
I know the flight simmers do a 224, I’ve seen it recently, would they have accurately modelled the cockpit?
cheers
