Surf & Light Aviation

Has anyone read about someone who has done this before? I’m interested in the stories they would have and the logistics of it too.

I think the parallels between light aviation and surfing are great.
Both pursuits involve the elements. When in the air or on the waves I tend to find a (for want of a better word) spirituality tends to come to you, so that afterwards you feel not just happy but content and a furfilled.

Personally I’m not a massive fan of light aviation. I find it hot, crampt, the David Clarksons actually painful and make me feel sick (anyone have a suggestion on this?), but I do love the honour of viewing things from above & the landing drama.

I’m a surfer myself and my father enjoys a little light aviation for fun. The stories of being able to get somewhere where you couldn’t normally get sound wonderful. Wouldn’t it be great to spend some time with my father and go surfing as well, before a CAA medical rules it out? Wouldn’t it be nice to fly in somewhere and have a surf?

It’s a Piper Turbo Arrow 1900kg max load. A trailer for the board and 2 bikes may be possible.

A long time ago I was a surfing instructor.

A pretty cr@p one, but it was a good way to spend all day on the beach and meet a lot of barely clothed young ladies.

Now I fly aircraft for a hobby, so I suppose I validate your theory.

What you really need is a floatplane. Imagine landing outside the break and saving all that tedious scratching out.

If there are kindred sports I’d suggest motorcycling and flying are more closely linked.
