Surprising resident at an airplane graveyard

I must admit, I certainly did not expect that aircraft type to be sitting idle in a desert.

See if you can spot which one I mean:

Most likely only temporary storage but surprising all the same.

It’s not that surprising, I’ve seen quite a few new airframes going straight from the prod line to Mojave/Marana in the past, for example the Air Canada 744s and a whole bunch of Avianca MD80s.

Delta parked a couple of A330s (and a few other jets that might not otherwise be expected to be stored) over the winter – they were in need of heavy checks and weren’t needed in the fleet for a while due to the downturn, so they were parked in the desert rather in the more harmful damp and cold climate at MSP/DTW. They have now been taken out of store and ferried to maintenance base for overhaul.

Maybe you’re right.

I’m not a subscriber, so I can’t see the “fit screen” version. 🙂

A couple of friends of mine went on a photographic trip to the States earlier in they year, and they reported seeing an ex-RYR B737 at Marana so I put two and two together.

Looks like they added up to 4.99999999999999. 😀

one of Jet Airway’s 777 went straight to Marana from the assembly line.

The “Delta” A330, presumably?

Only there’s a Ryanair B737 in there, too! 🙂

Even brand-new aircraft are “delivered” straight from the production line into short-term storage at Marana from time to time.
