It’s unlikely that any detailed information about how they survived will become known, but it has been an interesting few weeks to be around this project! πŸ™‚

However there are a couple more photos on the museum twitter feed!

Hi T.O

What fantastic news, I’d love to hear how they came to survive, as the original General Aircraft drawings are believed to have been destroyed many years ago.

If anyone out there has access to Miles M.38 Messenger drawings can they please get in touch as Milson Aerospace has just received a partial project for restoration to airworthy and we need to get started working out how to proceed. Also if anyone knows of drawings for the Scottish Aviation Bulldog construction jigs I would love to hear from you too as we have some work on the fuselages of our projects that really requires the use of these or similar fixtures.

If the company is the original Avery weighing company then they merged with an American company a few years ago to become Avery Weigh-Tronixβ„’ http://www.averyweigh-tronix.com/uk/

I used to work for one of their sister companies but I never heard of any aviation connections in the UK other than the Railweight company in Stockport, which originated from connections with Manchester’s aviation industry!

You learn something new everyday – just spotted the following link http://www.averyweigh-tronix.com/About-Us/Avery-Historical-Museum/ they might be able to help!

Some years ago, there were a number of drawings for Parnall built aircraft, still with Avery ltd, they included, the Puffin, Panther, & the Miles Satyr. Can any one shed light on wether or not these drawings still survive, & if so, where ?.

Bob T.

Bob, do you have any contact details for Avery Limited?

Hi Sopwith.7f1,

I did not realize that they did not support individual requests for drawings. I guess their concern is liability, in the event someone tries to build something to fly!

I had been in correspondence with them prior to my visit and they were aware of my affiliation, so the question did not come up.

I did receive a fairly recent message telling me that they now had the Chadderton copies of the Anson drawings should we need further information.

Deryck

Hi Deryck

AFAIK the Heritage centre are willing to supply copies of Avro drawings which they have obtained from non BAe sources, to any one who wants copies, but will only supply those which have come directly from BAe, to people/museums who are rebuilding original aircraft.

I have read through the comments on drawing sources and I did not see any reference to the Avro Heritage Centre at Woodford.

We have, for the past several years, been restoring a Canadian built Avro Anson Mk II and we have ordered and received several dozen copies of Avro Anson Mk I drawings from the Avro Heritage Centre at Woodford.

When in England some years back I visited with the guys at the Heritage Centre and personally sorted through the drawers of Anson drawings with them, looking for various details, as the drawings had not at that stage been fully catalogued.

While my interests were Avro Anson they indicated that they were also supporting the Vulcan.

I have no idea what other drawings they have in their archives, but they can probably be contacted through their web site, which used to be www.avroheritage.com

Hi Deryck

I did mention the 504 drawings held by the Avro heritage centre, but I did not know what else they have. Also they are/were not willing to supply copies of the drawings that they do have, unless it is for the restoration of an original aircraft.
Most of Avro’s early drawings were apparently destroyed in a drawing office fire, back in the 50’s or 60’s.

Are there any known drawings of the Fairey Battle fuselage/ wings in existence?
I have had contact with people who have drawings of some of the minor assemblies.

We have hit a brick wall with our Center Section, especially where the wings attach.

Waynne, you should ask Dave Gibbins at AgustaWestland. They have a few bits of Fairey stuff in their archive.

Hello Bob T.

Other types that I know are covered to some extent in drawings now at HARS are the DH.82, DH.84, DH.86 and Drover. I have the general impression that all of these drawings are related to Mascot late 30s and Bankstown (1942 onwards), but I will find out more.

Hi Nicko

It will be interesting to hear exactly what types there are drawings for, if I remember correctly some DH50’s were built/rebuilt in Australia, & a few DH9’s were also re-worked there as well.

As far as I know, only GA drawings exist for the DH71, unless some were sent out to OZ along with the one that went there.

I’ve seen a little info on this thread re Australia, but have not read it closely – apologies if any of this is a repeat. In the mid naughties Hawker de Havilland signed over its archives to HARS. In the last few years HARS has been working through cataloguing and scanning of the drawings. When HdH was working on the Mosquito (old VH-WAD) for the AWM, the trays and trays of dwgs (huge numbers of microfiche, some old school) were described as ‘around 5000’. Some quantity of these had come from BAe, but others were left over from Bankstown production. Earlier this year cataloguing and scanning of the DH.60 drawings was completed. There are various other DH models covered to varying %%% of completion. Last count I saw for Vampire (100, 113, 115) was around 90 drawings.

Question: Rare one – how about drawings for DH.71?

Hi TC

Some years ago, John Sizer told me that a group “somewhere” in the south west of Britain, had a large collection of Percival drawings, unfortunately I was unable to find out any more. I wonder if anyone else knows which restoration/preservation group this might have been, I thought it might have been C.A.R.G, but think that they are/were located in a different area.

Cheer’s.
