Can anyone say how many Lysanders survive? Static and flying…
There seem to be a few in Canada.
Cheers

I’ve been asked to find a mounting for a Lewis gun for a Lysander. Does anyone know if any of the survivors have one at all? I am told it is the same as that used in the Fairey Battle.
None of the complete survivors have the early Vickers K or single Browning gun mounting fitted, nor even the later twin Browning mount.
I have a selection of wartime manual shots and a couple of diagrams in my Lysander book in the armament section, but not themselves enough for the construction of a replica.
Blimey – that’s loads. At least 4 in the UK – that’s good going.
There is a worthy selection of surviving Lysanders globally, with several very well restored and reasonably accurately configured examples in several countries. More flyers, which various valiant groups are working on, would be nice.
I’d caution excitement over Lysanders not on display – as a ‘Meccano’ type aircraft, a good deal of cross-kitting of previous restorations has left several serial numbers (beloved of ‘listers’) as identities without anything like enough to make a complete machine.
Again, there’s a slightly out of date list of survivors in my book.

I am 99% certain that none of the survivors have the rear cockpit gun mount. The one most likely to have it would have been R9125 at Hendon, as one of the most original, but she has the rear cockpit as it was fitted out for SD use which had the gun removed to make room for a bench seat for the “Joes”.

I’d be surprised if a spare mounting turned up – I would have thought it would be easier to get one made from new….
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

3 in Belgium, I believe. One almost airworthy, one static and a frame of one in the BAHAAT collection.
The airworthy one is OO-SOT, the BAHAAT is RCAF n°2364, owned by Eric Vormezeele.
