I have been meaning to ask this for some time. Do any actual wartime Supermarine Seafires still exist anywhere? If so, where and what model? Are any likely to fly again?
How many Seafires survive in total?
Thanks.

Thank you Nashio. So I guess the MkII and MkIII Seafires on the list may have had a wartime history.

There is one Seafire currently on the UK airshow circuit, I can’t remember who owns it but I believe it actually served in wartime though I may be wrong as usual.

Mk. XVII SX336.
Owned by Kennet Aviation, based at North Weald (I believe)
I doubt it’d have any actual wartime provenenace though, as I feel quite sure that the XVII was a end-of-war/post-war development.

You’re thinking of Kennet Aviation’s Mk XVII SX336, which was built in 1946.

The other flying Seafire is, of course, VP441 in America.
Seafire IIIc PP972 has been under restoration for some time. It’s been featured on these forums often enough.

There’s a Seafire XV which is very close to flying in the midwest… the former CWH example …. I think it’s in Missouri.
Cheers,
Richard

With a broad view, there are 17 Seafires and Seafire projects world-wide, three are WWII vintage, the remainder are late ’45 and beyond, build.
It will all be in the book. 🙂

Just looked at the XV on the web. Looks to have been blinged with polished rocker covers and spinner. Is the cockpit standard or have they “USofA Sea Furied” it?
Spinner – That’s how it is believed they were.
