Ah! That has got your attention. π
Well what do we really want to see on this site?
I was quite surprised to see the results of a post I made yesterday with direction to an audio site to hear the last twelve minutes of the full r/t transmission of the three Concordes being co-ordinated and vectored into LHR for the final touch down – pretty historic stuff.
On my counter 5 viewed and even less probably listened.
Conversely over the same period 62 viewed a ‘Message for Ashley’.
So ladies and gentleman, not a formal poll, but what grabs your attention and what is a big yawn.

And don’t forget, a lot of us already had those Concorde broadcasts from other sources. I certainly did.
I say keep the forum as varied as possible. Nobody makes us read every thread. I dropped out of the Spitfire Wing thread very early on, but it would be dreadful to stop the guys who find this interesting / important discussing it here.
Still rolling around the floor thinking of Steve accidentally flashing his stocking-tops whilst mounting his aircraft π

Hmmmm…what a bunch of old sticky-beaks :p
In answer to your question Mark, I was one of those who clicked on the link and followed it through…and yes it was interesting listening…I’ve not really got any firm affiliation with the great bird, but I do think she is a magnificent looking machine. My father however is a great fan (he was one of the very first fare-paying passengers on Concorde, and recalls his time on board with great affection…to this day he keeps all the bits and pieces he was given on board like the cutlery, Concorde headed notepaper and envelopes, fresh wipes, luggage labels etc :)) so I have always taken an interest in Concorde because of that (plus, most babies have cutesie wutesie fluffy toys in their bedroom, I was the only kid on the block with a three foot model of Concorde in mine :D)

I’m representative of someone who found the forum and initally piled into (and very much enjoyed) the “What’s Your Favourite………” type threads. I found it a good way of getting to know regulars on the forum (sometimes other newbies), and enabled me to ‘vent off’ with all the sort of stuff I couldn’t do otherwise because I’m not physically near like minded enthusiasts. The forum is the nearest thing to a mass enthusiast gathering at a pub – without the beer (a good thing?)
Soon aftwards my own interests and ‘isms’ were expressed on the boards – and I actually like the variety of peoples tastes that’s found on the forum. The BofB quotes and ‘what do you eat at airshows’ provide a bit of light relief for those so inclined, wheras the technical debates, memory threads, and insider knowledge posts are interesting to those that go for them.
My greatest delight is taking a chance on a dodgy titled thread and finding great interest inside – Mark12 π

Believe me, everyone would be horrified if I were ever to clamber into a two seater with my stocking tops showing.

Concorde R/T
DamianB,
No it can’t.
It wasn’t the lack of discussion that surprised me it was the lack of views on the counter compared with the ‘Message for Ashley’ over the same period.
I personally was enthralled with the Concord R/T and I thought others might be also – real history in the making.
Maybe it’s a pilot thing.

I guess my interest in this forum (other than the seemingly unpopular Mustang) is the evolution of the vintage aircraft preservation scene around the world over the past 40 or so years, some of the recent photograph threads on here have been fantastic

I read everything and do enjoy a lot of the more technical threads. I also particularly look out for Warbird news as you can you usually find things out here a good few weeks before the specialist press.
Most of all though, I enjoy the photographic threads – in such knowledgeable company it is the one area where I might have something worthwhile to contribute.

I am delighted to see that this thread has been awarded the much cherished ‘one star’ rating.
So for somebody at least this type of discussion is the ‘big yawn’ or perhaps it is just the disappointment of an anticipated pic of S.Y. clambering into the two seater, stocking tops etc. π

The ‘views’ counter doesn’t seem to have worked right for a while…
Don’t go basing any beliefs on that little luxury!
I look at every post regardless. You cannot get much of the full story from so brief a lure…

I’m with Ed, and several others who’ve already replied.
The airshow/warbird operator/p-51/BoB film quotations/what’s your favourite….type threads are of little or no interest and rarely capture my attention.
Threads such as those with original, old photos (many of which are contributed to by you (thanks)) and the technical, type-specific ones, are far more likely to lure me in. In fact, they save this board, as far as I’m concerned.
Putting it a slightly different way, it’s why I subscribe to Aero***** Monthly yet leave Fly**** on the stationers shelf…
oo-err!

WarbirdUK and Mark12 – I have to say I’m more interested by the technical threads and the retrospectives such as the Failsworth thread. I’d much rather know about the technical side of things than debate “whose is the best airshow routine” or anything like that.
By: warbirdUK - 24th January 2004 at 13:21
Hi Mark 12,
This is a trend I’ve also noticed, that when there is some ‘inside knowledge’ that goes a bit deeper than who is meeting who & where and general grumble etc then the thread seems to turn off which I think can be a bit shallow, I would have thought that folks interested in Airshows & aircraft would want to know what made things tick, as it were, maybe, working in the industry I’m not really an ‘enthusiast’ in the sense that is displayed here.

I do view all new threads but I’m not all that keen on photography so when stuff comes up about the Canon this and the Nikkon that I’m generally outta here! π I can’t afford the gear and the work of others on this forum far outstrips anything I could do.
I also find it a bit tedious when a discussion goes on and on,particularly when it’s on a specific subject,eg the B and C wing Spitfire debate a few days back!No offence to anyone,it just wasn’t my cuppa tea…
PS I did download the Concorde Wav.,thanks for putting it up. π

My reply would word for word be the same as Flat 12’s. Unusally I wasn’t on line yesterday!
I am interested in all aspects of historic aviation but ‘glaze over’ when discussions get too technical for my old brain! The old photos are the real treat. I do view most posts, honest. π

Ummmmmm……
counter now shows 1 reply & NO views !!

Mark
I didn’t view your Concorde thread as I had heard (& saved) that & other Concorde cometary’s before from the SST site & yes I think it is historic. As for the No. of ‘view’s of a thread, well the counter cannot be relied on because when I first viewed this thread there were no previous views ‘0’, after viewing & going to another web site I come back & it still shows NO views, so it hadn’t counted mine & maybe others ‘view’s, so this might also apply to other threads as well.
As for what I would like to see, mine main interest is military props, I find the scrapyard threads fascinating, the stories/info & the pics yourself, cestrian & others have posted is fantastic, restoration progress, ‘finds’ & how they came about, & anything else related, basically just more of the forum as it is
A BIG thanks to all who contribute to this forum.
