I’ve been trying, with a singular lack of success, to trace copies of the books ‘Sussex Flights and Fliers 1783-1919’ and ‘Sussex Aviation 1920 – 1939’ by Roy Brooks (Downside Publications, 1992 and 1996 respectively). I’ve drawn a blank in all the usual places (Abebooks, Amazon, eBay, etc.) and there’s barely a mention of them on the internet. If anyone has copies for sale, or knows of them being offered for sale, I’d be very glad to hear from you.
With my thanks in anticipation

….. and, I suppose, whether they have the staff, time and inclination to do it?

It’ll depend on the equipment they’ve got whether they can scan the microfiche to pdf. Fingers crossed!

Thank you, Paul. I’ll look forward to hearing from you after your next trip into town.

AA,
It just so happens Lewes is in my neck of the woods. I will pop into the library next time I am in town and ask a few questions.
Don’t give up hope yet!

Thank you, Mothminor. I’ll bear that in mind if I fail to trace copies of the books themselves. However it’s a shame that Lewes Library has them only on microfiche rather than in pdf format. Particularly when regard is had to the fact that I am not local to Lewes, I suspect that, in terms of labour, printing, postage, etc., it would be much simpler and cheaper to ask for the pdf file, sent by internet, rather than hard copies printed off the microfiche and sent by post (copyright issues aside).

I notice that the library in Lewes, East Sussex has both on microfiche. I guess it would depend on copyright whether they would be prepared to make copies?

Thank you, Paul. I’ve checked the Sussex booksellers which list their stock online and I’ve also drawn a blank there. I believe that, although the publisher is stated to be Downside Publications, effectively these two volumes were self published by the late Royston R K Brooks. Thus I shouldn’t be surprised to discover that both the print run and the number sold of each was limited. But if you do trace copies of either, whilst you’re browsing the local bookshops, please do let me know. However I shan’t hold my breath!

Hi AA
I live in East Sussex, so will check in local towns’ secondhand book shops next time I am passing. If I find either I will ask them to put them to one side and then check if you still need them.

A gentle bump – before giving up hope!
