For the bikers among us
I test rode an SV1000S this afternoon on a mix of dual carriageway and town traffic.
My first impression was that it was really small but then I am coming from a TDM which has a big stance and physical presence. I’m used to having the clocks in my field of view rather than having to look down for them. At first I found the digital speedo a pain but soon got used to it. I never thought I’d ever find a bike with a good gearbox but this one is excellent and really flatters your lack of riding skills. The clutch was light although the stock position of the lever would need a little alteration for me to find it comfortable. Suzuki have missed out a sidestand on all SV’s and I think that is a shame. This is supposed to be a do-it-all bike in all weathers but chain lubing will be a pain. Also the twin exhausts, despite giving a lovely sound look very unfinished. Surely they should have been polished? Brakes were superb (Tokico units) as was the acceleration but for me the crunch point was the riding position. I’m not a fan of the sports bik ‘trussed up chicken’ position but Suzuki have used it to the full on this bike leading to wrist ache after just a few miles. What a pity because otherwise I’d have one. My local dealers have all colours available on the road (53 plate) for £4999!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I could accept the riding position I’d have to have one but I can’t. Oh well…
