seem to recall Air Wales used to fly out of there and was wondering if there any commercial flights still, cargo or passenger,or is the airport given over entirely to general aviation now?

things seem to have generally tailed off over the last few years. having grown up (and still having parents living there) directly in the flightpath of fairwood, there’s been a noticeable derease in traffic.
you used to get quite a lot of biz jets popping in, a lot of military traffic (mostly hawks and C-130’s)using the circuit, plus lots of general aviation, but these days its only the odd biz jet, not much in the way of military stuff, and the general aviation is a lot smaller than it used to be.
its a far cry from its hey day in the 70’s when you had dan air heralds and viscounts in and out all the time, there used to be a beautiful red beech staggerwing based there, as well as a havard. the gliding school was up every weekend, there was a big parachute school there, and it even used to have a great airshow there. (i still remember seeing a vulcan doing touch and goes there one airshow.)

thanks for the responses.
Do they not even have the odd cargo flight from Swansea these days?
seem to remember on the national news there was some controversy regarding flying live animals on a Russian aircraft a few years back.

Furthermore, Swansea Airports’s location is out of the way, even for those living in Swansea…
Terminating, or starting services at CWL, and having to taxi/bus passengers to/from Swansea won’t have helped either….
Schedules may be less of an issue – the passengers weren’t there, or prepared to use the services anyway.
So the Ryanair business plan is not working? 😀

I’d say they shot themselves in the foot by not carrying out sufficient market research to identify the true level of likely demand

No regular commercial flights at Swansea.
Air Wales were the last airline to operate scheduled flights.
Unfortunately the people of Swansea and the local area did not support the airline sufficiently and the schedule flights ceased.
Because Air Wales shot themselves in the foot with delays and ridiculous schedules? 😮

As of 2005, there are no scheduled flights operating from Swansea Airport. The Welsh Assembly Government is currently conducting studies into improving the facilities at the airport as part of the transport infrastructure development strategy for the whole of Wales. The improvements may require some public sector support. Development proposals include: a new terminal building, new hangars, upgraded operating facilities, new fencing and a new access road.
