Hi again!
Back in June I went to Linkoping in Sweden for the Malmen Airshow.
We also visited a few air museums and the photos have finally made in on to Flickr.
Straight after arriving we visited The Aeroseum. This collection is entriely housed within the underground tunnels that used to serve as hangars for Drakens! It is at Gothenburg City airport (served mainly by Ryanair) which used to be Save air base.

A couple of hours drive South saw us arrive at Ugglarp and the Svedinos collection. There are some very interesting aircraft here, although it is rather cramped.

We then continued south to the F10 museum at the former airbase of Angelholm.
This is (was?) also the base of the airworthy Mustang and Spitfire operated by Biltema, although on the day we were there these were already at Malmen for the airshow.

For the W&R fans, we then dropped back to Halmstad and managed a few shots of aircraft in the fire training school. We also found an airworthy Vampire hiding down near the flying club.

Having spend the following day at the airshow our first stop on the Monday was to catch up with a few W&R airframes at Linkoping (and also some very very new airframes!)

A quick drive up and down the E4 dual-carriageway produce the following shot of various pole mounted aircraft

Finally, we visited the fantastic Flyvapenmuseum at Malmen.
This is a terrific collection of very well presented aircraft. I’ve visited quite a few museums over the years and for overall quality I would rate this in the top 3.

I hope this is of interest. Feel free to use any of these shot if you wish to, all I ask is that you credit accordingly.
Cheers

Anyone know what the blades on the Venom in the last set are?
The blades are antennas and reflectors for IFF and Navaid.

Alan,
What a treat these photos are, I really enjoyed your airshow photos and these had some cracking aircraft in them. There can’t be too many radial engined Hawker Hart examples around and the Fiat CR42 was a joy. It is also good as I have always had a thing for the Swedish AF schemes so my fix is satisfied for a while. With your helpful suggestions a three day trip needs to be added to my plans!
Thanks again.

If anyones interested, I have just posted a thread on the Airshow Photos forum giving links to my shots from the 2012 Malmen Airshow, which was central to our Swedish visit.
The 6-ship formation consisting of Tunnan, Lansen, Draken, Viggen, Gripen and Saab105 was unforgettable!!

Another superb set of images Alan… fantastic stuff… what a way to spend the last couple of hours of a wet’n’windy Sunday!
I’d also recommend, to those who haven’t looked beyond the sets he’s posted today, taking a peek at his other photo-streams here…
The only downside… all of the chores I had planned to do today will just have to wait 🙂
Cheers
Pete

Superb shots, thanks for sharing. I’ve always admired the Swedish collections and Historic Flight and it always surprises me just how many aircraft types that they have operated over the years.

Thanks for posting these, what a fascinating cross-section of Sweden’s aviation heritage. The SwAF museum in particular looks stunning, I can think of one of two national museums in the UK which could learn from the presentation and condition of artefacts there!

Thanks for your comments, much appreciated.
I enjoy sharing my photos, and when planning trips I often find it useful to see photos from other visits and hear what can realistically be done in a day.
I generally try to include a photo of everything present, if possible. That way it is a complete record of what can be seen. It does end up as a lot of shots though!
I would encourage anyone to visit these museums and hopefully my photos will inspire someone to do so. This trip was a good example of what can be done on your own (without the need for a tour operator), with flights and hire car booked through Ryanair and the hotel being a well known brand.
You could actually fit this in over a weekend, although 3 days would give a more relaxed tour with more time to stand and stare!
Cheers
