No, you filthy minded bunch, not THAT sort of museum… ๐
Does anyone know of any decent aviation museums in the Malmo area (or even over in Copenhagen)? I’m thinking of following my football team on a pre-season tour to Malmo in July, but would need to fill some blank days in. Ideally looking for anything aviaton related within a few hours drive of Malmo.
Any and all suggestions gratefully received… ๐

RE: a good one in Denmark…
Can’t remember exactly which one that was I’m afraid – I’ll have to check the photo’s when I get them back. I was very impressed with pretty much all of the exhibits though, particularly the BV138 and the Saab B17. First time I’d ever seen one of those.

Glad you liked it, Steve. Did you notice the KZ-IIT frame on wheels? I participated in its restoration…!

RE: Wandering off topic a bit
Haven’t seen that one yet, but hope to at some point. While we’re wandering off topic slightly, the Swedish sub wasn’t the only bit of wandering I did; on the way back from Sweden I visited Belsen and Ypres. Puts a lot of things into perspective… :'(

Speaking of submarines..
Have you all seen the sodding great U-boat parked on the dockside at Birkenhead?
Having read much of the exploits of Coastal Command it is chilling to see one of the beasts in real life.
Currently an evil red/black colour (rust or preservatives – having spenyt 50 years at the bottom of the Baltic) it still carries the damage from the depth charge that sank it. Dropped from a Liberator as I recall. Also the quad 40mm mounting on the bandstand with all the barrels bent and twisted.
Some days you can apparently walk through the unrestored interior.

RE: a good one in Denmark…
Kenneth, just wanted to say thankyou – you were spot on about the museum at Helsingor. As luck would have it, Wednesday were due to play an evening match at Helsingor stadium last week, and so I spent the day at the museum before going to the game.
Highlight of the museum for me was the BV138 which was recovered from the Oresund two years ago – it’s currently on display in ‘as found’ condition in the museum, along with a lot of very informative (if you can read Danish!) displays describing the events surrounding it’s sinking and subsequent discovery and recovery. I took a few photo’s of the BV138 and the museum in general and should get them back at the weekend, after which I’ll scan some in and try to post them up on the forum next week if anyone’s interested.
Just for reference, I did actually find some aircraft in Malmo, at the Technical Museum. Only a Tiger Moth, Draken, Klemm 35 and a few other bits and bobs, but there was also an ex-Sedish Navy submarine in the back yard. Definately worth a visit if anyone’s going over to Malmo or Copenhagen.

a good one in Denmark…
Cross the bridge or take a ferry over to Copenhagen, go to the Main station (Hovedbanegarden), take the train to Helsingoer (Elsinore, as “translated” into English) and go visit Danmarks Flyvemuseum.
Interesting aircraft on display include a beautifully restored PBY-6A, Saab 17A, one of only two KZ-IV ever built and more. If you go by
car there’s a motorway all the way. Should be 1 1/2 hrs drive from
Malmรถ at the most
