Swiss airline reportedly agrees with British Airways on alliance

Swiss airline reportedly agrees with British Airways on alliance:

ZURICH, Switzerland (AP) — Switzerland’s new national airline “Swiss” has agreed with British Airways on joining the Oneworld Alliance frequent-flier program, the weekly SonntagsZeitung reported Sunday.

“We have reached agreement with British Airways,” the newspaper quoted Swiss chief executive Andre Dose as saying. “Now we only need the approval of the competition officials.”

Swiss, whose formal name is Swiss International Air Lines Ltd., already is in a code-sharing partnership with American Airlines, the other leader of Oneworld Alliance, and has been negotiating to join the frequent-flier program.

SonntagsZeitung said European Union officials were expected to take up the Swiss application in September.

Swiss officials were unavailable for comment Sunday. The national carrier was formed last March by the fusion of regional carrier Crossair with its collapsed former parent Swissair.

The main problem they were facing was slots at LHR…is that true?

RE: Swiss airline reportedly agrees with British Airways on alliance

No… my understanding was that BA didn’t fancy Swiss, as their networks were to similar, and they didn’t want another ‘large’ European airline talking AA/CX/QF transfer pax off them within Europe.

But it’s logical when you think about it: LX already codeshare with BA on LHR-BSL, Finnair on GVA/ZRH/BRN-BSL-Helsinki, EI on ZRH-DUB and GVA/BSL-LCY-DUB, AA on BSL-BRU/ZRH and from connecting flights from AA’s gateways in the US, QF on SIN-Oz flights etc etc.

All I can say is… about bloody time. Now… can I merge my Qualiflyer miles with my Executive club miles… (I fear not 🙁 )
